John A Rassias

The William R. Kenan Professor of French and Italian at Dartmouth College, Professor Rassias is the originator of an innovative and highly effective approach to teaching language known as the Rassias Methodo or th\u00e9 Dartmouth intensive Language Model. A graduate of the Class of 1943A, Professor Rassias graduated summa cum laude from the University of Bridgeport and, as a Fulbright Scholar, studied and received his doctorate from the Universit\u00e9 de Dijon in France. His method of instruction has been adopted by more than 600 professors and is used in 180 languages. He has authored more than 400 articles in regional, national, and international publications. He has won numerous gifted and outstanding teacher awards and in 1991 received Dartmouth College's Inaugural President's Medal for Outstanding Leadership and Achievement. He has had a long relationship with Peace Corps language programs and in 1996 was honored by the United States Peace Corps for his pioneer work. Over 145,000 Peace Corps volunteers throughout the world have been trained through his methods.
